No Sound

The Nakba continues.
We must let everyone know.
— Jan C.

The swimming pool is dry and dirty. There is no sound of children’s voices, no chatter between friends and neighbors.

There’s been no sound here for six years. Silence because one beautiful August day in 2016 that Israeli soldiers came. They brought bulldozers. And by the end of the day, they pulled the trees out by the roots, trampled the grass, and destroyed the homes of 33 families. Six years later, all that’s left is the rubble, a mangled piece of metal where a baby once sat, and the empty pool.

Why?? What was the reason for demolishing the homes of 33 families in Qalandia?

Today, we learned the purpose. It’s evidence. I’ve seen it now and so have the others on our delegation.

The Nakba continues.

We must let everyone know.
