Harvesting Resistance

This is food sovereignty in action
— Delegation 73

☀️🫒✊🏽Harvesting resistance. A snapshot of our olive harvest visits in Battir and Ni’lin. This is food sovereignty in action- from Palestine to Borinken! Joined by our compañerxs @la_via_campesina_official and @alardproducts we learned about what it takes to tend to trees that have been living for hundreds of years. Between 80,000-100,000 families rely on the olive harvest for income. Besides the physical destruction of olive trees from settlers, many Palestinian farmers in the West Bank require Israeli permits to access their land in restricted areas near illegal Israeli settlements. This also complicates how trees get water since many irrigation systems have been destroyed, and accessing aquifers is restricted. Despite these
conditions, Palestinians continue to grow, harvest and press olives.

After leaving the olive harvest in Ni’lin we learned about the violent stabbing of a foreign solidarity activist who was also volunteering to harvest olives in Kisan (West Bank) on the exact same day.
This is a reality for Palestinians everyday.

Food sovereignty is part of our collective liberation.
